RULES & REGULATIONS

  1. Deadline for entries: August 30, 2023.
  2. No entry fee will be charged at the time of entry, but 15% of prize money will be deducted as an entry fee. HST will be charged on the entry fee.
  3. Exhibitors are not required to stay for the full two days of the show. An exhibitor is free to show on one of any day or days he/she so desires, but no exhibitor may withdraw his/her horses from the show after it has commenced or from the show grounds without the permission of the committee in charge.
  4. All animals, with the exception of foals of 2023 must have proof of a negative coggins test within the current year.
  5. Requests for horse stalls must be made in writing on the entry form supplied, on or before the closing date. Stall fees must be enclosed with the entry form.  Stalls are limited. Due to stall availability, NO stalls will be reserved as tack stalls.  If entries are made online, stall fees will be deducted from prize money.

Standing stall – $4.42 + $.58 HST = $5.00

  1. No bedding will be provided.
  2. Abusing of horse or horses on fairground property is strictly prohibited.
  3. Any exhibitor who is guilty of creating a disturbance whether by openly criticizing the judge or using obscene language to any judge or official shall therefore forfeit the right to any prize money and may be suspended by the judge from competing.
  4. Miniature horses cannot exceed 38” in height.
  5. There are restrictions to two entries per class per farm except for Junior and Senior showmanship classes.

NOTE:  Horses competing in Light Draft or Agricultural Classes excepting Draft Brood Mare and foal, are not eligible to compete in Heavy Draft Classes.  Horses competing in Heavy Draft Classes are not eligible to compete in Light Draft or Agricultural Classes.

A fair may authorize that a breeding unit may show two animals in any three classes, but only one animal in the balance of the breeding classes to a maximum of ten animals per breeding unit.  All exhibits must be owned by and registered in the name of the exhibitor – note exception in Get-of-Sire classes.

Certificate of Registration in the Stud Book of Canada must be produced.  Photocopies are not acceptable.

EXHIBITORS MUST CARRY THEIR OWN LIABILITY INSURANCE.

GOLDEN FORK AWARD – An award presented by The McMullin Family for the best kept stalls (overall appearance).  The award will be presented on Saturday.

Steel toed footwear must be worn.  Each credible entry will receive a prize at ringside.  This is open to all draft breeds. Youths showing a Belgian horse will receive points towards the OBHA youth program.  Stallions one year and over may not be used.

PROGENY OF DAM:  Two animals any age, the progeny of one dam.  Each animal must have been shown in its appropriate single section if offered.  Both animals must be owned by the exhibitor and registered in the exhibitor’s name.  One entry per farm allowed in class.

RENFREW FAIR RULES AND REGULATIONS

  1. Horses must be weighed with halters or bridles. If scales are not available, horses can be girthed.  Judge or committee will be present for weigh-in.  Horses will be weighed once only.
  2. Teams must draw 15 feet, passing between lines 20 feet apart. However, failing to make 15 feet, the team will be given one more hitch.  A team slipping on or over the side lines will be disqualified.
  3. One driver to a team. However, a driver may drive more than one team.
  4. The driver of a team is allowed two helpers, but no interference on the part of the driver or helpers will be permitted under any circumstances.
  5. The driver or helpers will not be allowed to hit or push the horse, throw soil, or slap boat during the draw. Such draw will be disqualified.
  6. Breakage in harness may or may not count as a draw (teamsters decision) – time to repair to be determined by the judge.
  7. A team is allowed three minutes from when they are called to hitch to the boat.
  8. The draw is completed when the boat stops.
  9. The boat must be measured from the closest point to the pin.
  10. The breaking of any rule disqualifies the hitch.
  11. Any competitor who is guilty of creating a disturbance whether by openly criticizing the judge or using obscene language to any judge or official shall therefore forfeit the right to any premium and may be suspended by the judge from competing.
  12. Only judges and helpers are allowed in the ring.
  13. The driver and helpers must stay behind whippletrees when driving.
  14. Teamsters and helpers must stay away from horses’ heads when hitching and drawing.
  15. The abusing of horse or horses before and after the draw is strictly prohibited.
  16. The Renfrew Agricultural Society is not responsible for any accidents on the grounds in connection with the drawing competition.
  17. Exhibitors must carry their own liability insurance.
  18. Weighing the teams will be done on the day of the draw festival at the fairgrounds.
  19. Horses are to be walked to and from the boat. No running in the ring.
  20. Once the draw is started, all teams must remain in the horse pull ring. Exceptions are at the judge’s discretion.
  21. The Judge’s decision is final.

EASTERN ONTARIO | PONY PULLING ASSOCIATION

PRIZE MONEY:    1st – $150.00; 2nd – $130.00; 3rd – $120.00; 4th – $110.00; 5th – $100.00; 6th – and remaining entries – $75.00

RULES AND POINTS 2023 

  1. Size Class – Small (light) ponies measure 48 inches and under. Large (heavy) ponies measure over 48 inches to 56 inches and under.
  1. Draw Distance – Must pull the stone boat 15 feet in order to move on to the next round.  Allowed 2 attempts to pull a total distance of 15 feet, within a 20 foot wide course or whatever is provided.  If the stone boat is within 36” from the line, the next teamster may request to have the boat centered.
  1. Equipment – In the event of breakage, the draw may be taken over at a teamster’s discretion or counted as 1 draw.  Repair time is at the judge’s discretion.  No changing from closed to open bridles, but changing from open to closed bridles is allowed, if safety is an issue.

4.(a) Faults – Draws:  Faults disqualifying a draw include:

  • Failing to hitch within 3 minutes or 3 passes in front of the boat.
  • Interference with the team by the helper with ponies are pulling.
  • Interference or assistance with the team within hooking distance of the boat counts as 1 pass, and driver must take another pass.
  • Teamsters or helpers ahead of the whippletrees.
  • Check slaps.
  • Stopping on or going over the course markers during a draw (within 15 feet or the judge’s whistle).
  1. (b) Faults – Teams: Faults disqualifying a team include:
  • Profane language by teamster or helper.
  • Unnecessary roughness when handling a team.
  • Teams that become unmanageable or difficult to handle, and in the opinion of the judge or fair committee that become a danger to the public at any time during the pull.
  • Failing to remain in the drawing area until finished competing.
