STEERS

Rules and Regulations

NOTE: No steers will be allowed entry to the Renfrew fairgrounds unless they possess the approved (intact and undamaged) CFIA tag.  It is the responsibility of the owner and/or exhibitor of steers to ensure that every animal under their care, have the required approved tag as per CFIA regulations.  Animals without proper identification will be removed from the grounds by the owner.

  1. Any resident of Renfrew County who is between 12 and 21 years of age as of January 1st, 2024 shall be eligible to participate.
  2. Only one nomination per exhibitor will be accepted.
  3. Closing date for entries is June 22, 2024.
  4. The market committee will be making arrangements with the exhibitors to attend the location of the market animal to view it prior to July 1st
  5. ALL ANIMALS DEEMED TO HAVE BEEN SOLD AT ANY PREVIOUS SHOWS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO SHOW AT THE RENFREW FAIR.
  6. Animals must be on the grounds by 8 a.m. 
  7. Animals will be weighed on Saturday, September 7th  at 10 a.m.  This will be the show weight. 
  8. Animals deemed to be a safety hazard by the committee will not be permitted to be shown and/or sold. 
  9. Animals will be shown at 12:00 noon Saturday, September 7th, 2024. A maximum of ten (10) animals may be selected for the sale.  A 10% expense charge will be deducted from the sale price.  
  10. The eligible animals will be sold at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 7thNOTE: Sale will be held in the cattle ring.
  11. ANIMALS MUST BE OWNED, FED, PREPARED AND SHOWN BY THE EXHIBITOR.  ANIMALS MUST BE HOUSED AND FED IN RENFREW COUNTY. NO ADULT FITTING HELP. 
  12. Only those exhibitors and/ or guardians who sign the Beef Show and Sale agreement and waiver form will be allowed to participate in the show and sale.
  13. All exhibitors must carry their own liability insurance.
  14. The animals will be the responsibility of the exhibitor until the animals are removed from the grounds.
  15. All market animals may be subject to blood sampling.
  16. There will be a $10.00 non-refundable entry fee payable to the Renfrew Agricultural Society  

Prize Money: 1st – $70.00; 2nd – $65.00; 3rd – $55.00; 4th – $45.00, 5th – $40.00; 6th – $35.00; 7th – $30.00 8th – $25.00 9th – $20.00; 10th – $15.00
All other worthy entries will receive $10.00 

AWARDS

The Mac MacLaren Memorial Plaque, sponsored by Renfrew County Beef, will be presented to the exhibitor of the Grand Champion Steer. 

Grand Champion Steer banner will be donated by Dawson Crozier Logging, Renfrew.

Reserve Champion Steer banner will be donated by M & R Feeds, Micksburg, Pembroke, Shawville

JUNIOR MARKET HOG SHOW

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6th, 2024

RULES AND REGULATIONS

NOTE:  No market hog will be allowed entry to the Renfrew fairgrounds unless they possess the approved (intact and undamaged) PigTRACE identifier.  It is the responsibility of the owner and/or exhibitor of any market hog to ensure that every animal under their care have the required approved tag as per PigTRACE regulations.  Animals without proper identification will be removed from the grounds by the owner.

  1. Any resident of Renfrew County who are 12 to 21 years of age as of January 1st, 2024, shall be eligible to participate.
  2. Each member is to exhibit one hog.
  3. CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES IS June 22, 2024.
  4. The market committee will be making arrangements with the exhibitor to
    attend the location of the market animal to view it prior to July 1st.
  5. All entries will be weighed and numbered as soon after arrival as possible.  In NO
    case will a hog be re-weighed.
  6. All entries will be inspected upon arrival by the Committee.
    Any animal deemed unfit to be shown may be culled.  Any animal which, in their opinion, shows visual signs of disease, late castration or is a ridgling will be disqualified.  After an animal is slaughtered, if any drugs or defects such as bruises, abscesses or ridgling are found, the carcass will revert back to the original owner at time of sale.  The Renfrew Fair does not accept any responsibility for any loss or injury to hogs while at the show.
  7. Contestants must arrive with the animals before 9:00 a.m. on Friday.
  8. An exhibitor may remove his animal on Friday after 5:00 p.m. if the animal is not entered in the sale.
  9. No animal is to be ultrasonically measured prior to arrival at the show.
  10. There will be a $10.00, non-refundable entry fee payable to the Renfrew Agricultural Society.
  11. All hogs must weigh between 230 pounds and 270 pounds.
  12. Animals will be the responsibility of the exhibitor until the animals are removed from the grounds on Saturday.

The top six hogs will be sold at 6:00 p.m., Saturday night with the beef and lambs. 
NOTE:  Sale will be held in the cattle ring.

Any unpresentable animals will be disqualified from the sale.

A sale expense of 10% will be deducted from the selling price.  

Prize Money: 1st – $15.00; 2nd – $10.00
All other worthy entries will receive $5.00

 MARKET LAMBS CLASS AND SALE

NOTE:  No market lambs will be allowed entry to the Renfrew fairgrounds unless they possess the approved (intact and undamaged) CFIA tag.  It is the responsibility of the owner and/or exhibitor of any market lamb to ensure that every animal under their care have the required approved tag as per CFIA regulations.  Animals without proper identification will be removed from the grounds by the owner.

  1. Any resident of Renfrew County who are 12 to 21 years of age as of January 1st, 2024, are eligible to participate.
  2. Each exhibitor may enter only one lamb.
  3. Exhibitors may show a wether or ewe lamb.
  4. NO RAMS TO BE SHOWN.
  5. No signs of late castration or animal will be disqualified.
  6. Lambs are to be weighed Thursday morning.
  7. Closing date for entries is June 22, 2024.
  8. The market committee will be making arrangements with the exhibitors to attend the location of the market animal to view it prior to July 1st
  9. There will be a $10.00 entry fee payable to the Renfrew Agricultural Society.
  10. All lambs must be washed prior to showing.
  11. The animals will be the responsibility of the exhibitor until the animals are removed from the grounds on Saturday.
  12. Single Market Lamb – 80 to 130 lbs. owned by the exhibitor.

The top EIGHT lambs from Section 1 will be offered at the sale, to sell in Saturday, September 7th at 6:00 p.m.  NOTE:  Sale will be held in the cattle ring.

Exhibitors must carry their own liability insurance.

A sale expense of 10% will be deducted from the selling price.

New for 2024, all market entries must be submitted through AssistExpo-Renfrew Fair. The deadline for entries is June 22nd, 2024. The entry fee of $10.00 must be paid before your entries will be confirmed. Please send e-transfer to contact@renfrewfair.com or take payment to the Renfrew Fair office. If transferring, ensure you include who the transfer is for. 

WILD OAKS MEMORIAL CLASS

Rules and Regulations

  1. All boys and girls residing in Renfrew County who are 9 – 21 years of age as of January 1, 2024 are eligible to participate.
  2. Only one lamb may be entered by each exhibitor.
  3. All animals must be in the care and control of the exhibitor by June 1st, 2024.
  4. All animals must be washed and groomed prior to showing.
  5. All animals must have the first set of lambs teeth in place.
  6. The same lamb cannot be entered in Section 1 and Section 2.
  7. Lamb must be a breeding ewe.
  8. Closing date for entries is August 16th, 2024.
